City Has New Legal Counsel for IOOF Building
Court filings this week show a new lawyer over embattled building
Earlier this week, a filing with the Miami County Clerk of Courts announced that Thomas Schiff of the law firm of Hochwalt and Schiff of Kettering, will now be representing the City of Troy in the litigation over the highly contentious IOOF Building in Downtown Troy. Mr. Schiff formerly worked for the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office and is currently the Law Director for the village of Germantown.
This publication made a public records request of any agreements or contracts the city made with Mr. Schill or his firm, but the information was not disclosed due to attorney-client privlege.
The building is currently under a court supervised settlement agreement that was reached last December between a number of parties, including the City of Troy, to bring some sense of closure to the numerous lawsuits filed in regards to the building.
As a result of the agreement, the building was sold to the Troy Historic Preservation Alliance and is currently being repaired.
