County Land Revitalization Corporation Receives Grant
Grant will pay for a Brownfield Assessment
Earlier this week, this publication took a deep dive into some of the different community development based non-profit organizations that exist here in Ohio.
As luck would have it, one of those organizations, the Miami County Land Revitalization Corporation, will be receiving a sizable grant from the Ohio Department of Development.
The County Land Revitalization Corporation was statutorily created by the Board of County Commissioners is supported by the Miami County Department of Development. The main mission of the non-profit is to help bring land that is underdeveloped back to a productive use.
One of the many ways that the County Land Revitalization Corporation can do that is by playing an active role in Brownfield Redevelopment. Brownfields are formerly industrial or commercial that are abandoned and have suspected environmental contamination. Yesterday, the Ohio Department of Development announced that the Miami County Land Revitalization Corporation will receive a sizable grant to perform an environmental assessment for the former home of Miami Valley Wood Recyclers on South Union Street in Troy.
The assessment will perform different types of testing, such as taking soil samples and not only determine if there is significant environmental damage on the property, but the assessment will provide guidance on how to remediate the damage in order for the property to be put back into productive use.
