The first votes in November’s election will be cast today as early voting kicks off today at the Miami County Courthouse in Downtown Troy. If you have a desire to vote early and can’t make it to the courthouse today, there are plenty of opportunities to early vote this month. Here is the schedule:
Week 1: Tuesday, Oct. 7 – Friday, Oct. 10, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Week 2: Tuesday, Oct. 14 – Friday, Oct. 17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Week 3: Monday, Oct. 20 – Friday, Oct. 24, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Week 4: Monday, Oct. 27 – Friday, Oct. 31 (extended hours):
Monday, Oct. 27: 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 28: 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 29 – Friday, Oct. 31: 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Weekend before Election Day:
Saturday, Nov. 1: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 2: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
This being an “off-year” election, your voice as a voter is going to matter this year than others. Why? Turnout during these election cycles is terribly low — sometimes even under 10%!
And for those that believe that there is nothing to vote on this year, nothing could be further from the truth. Villages and cities throughout the county are going to elect council members and other offices. Each school district will have candidates for election and every township will elect two township trustees.
There are also two county wide tax issues - a replacement levy at 0.4 mills to support bridge construction throughout the county and the Miami County Board of Developmental Disabilities has a 2.5 mill renewal levy onthe ballot.
In other words, there is something for every county voter to decide this fall.

You Can Help Support This Work!
Our readers and subscribers have been asking for a new way to support the work being done here at Civic Capacity! Some of our readers do not like the idea of having to sign up for another subscription service. Some of our subscribers occasionally want to give more support through a one-time transaction.
Civic Capacity is partnering with “Buy Me A Coffee” to give our readers, subscribers and friends an opportunity to give one-time support to Civic Capacity. Personally, I don’t like coffee, but I will never turn down a nice iced tea. If you feel compelled to support this effort, just click the button below. In other words, this is an online tip jar.
