The first votes in November’s election will be cast later this week as early voting kicks off Tuesday at the Miami County Courthouse in Downtown Troy. If you have a desire to vote early and can’t make it to the courthouse today, there are plenty of opportunities to early vote this month. Here is the schedule:
Week 1: Tuesday, Oct. 6 – Friday, Oct. 9, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Week 2: Monday, Oct. 12 – Friday, Oct. 16, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Week 3: Monday, Oct. 19 – Friday, Oct. 23, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 24, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Week 4: Monday, Oct. 26 – Friday, Oct. 30 (extended hours):
Monday, Oct. 26: 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 27: 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 29 – Friday, Oct. 31: 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Weekend before Election Day:
Saturday, Oct. 31: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 1: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
This year’s ballot is filled with candidates and issues across Miami County. Individuals will chose candidates in contested races for Miami County Commissioner, State Representative and State Senator as well as federal candidates for House of Representatives and U. S. Senator.
Candidates will also be on the ballot for statewide offices, including Governor and Lieutenant Governor, State Auditor, State Attorney General, State Treasurer, Secretary of State and two State Supreme Court Justices.
Voters will also see State Issue 3, which enshrines voter identification in the State Constitution and two county wide tax issues, a 0.6 mill renewal levy for the Tri-County Board of Recovery and Mental Health Services and a 1.4 mill levy for the Miami County Park District, which replaces a 1.5 mill levy currently on the tax rolls.
Renewal levies for fire protection are on the ballot for Casstown (0.3 mills), Monroe Township (6.0 mills), Bethel Townshiop (4.9 mills) and Concord Township (3.7 mills). Monroe Township voters will also see a levy at 0.5 mills for Tipp-Monroe Community Services.
Voters in the Troy City School District will see a renewal levy of 5.8 mills. Voters in Pleasant Hill will be asked to decide a local liquor option and voters in Piqua will be asked to decide a new charter amendement that will prohbit the contruction of a data center.
