The Troy Police Department continues to update the community on the effectivness of the Flock Camera System
Last Month, this publication had a post outlining how the Troy Police Department has used the recently installed Flock Camera System to solve certain crimes in the community. The post was well received and many comments were received saying that this kind of information was useful for the community and it was one of the most read posts from last month, which you can read below.
In the spirit of openness and transparency, we are sharing the written report that Troy Police Chief Shawn McKinney shared with City Council about the Flock Camera System for the month of August.
August 1 - A stolen vehcile from Dayton was located in the area South Dorset Road and West Market Street. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled southbound on Interstate 75 and officers terminated their pursuit due to excessive speeds and congestion. It had also run from Montgomery County Deputies on the same day. It was located as an abandoned vehcile on August 5.
August 2 - With the assistance of Flock Cameras, a suspect was developed from a Wal-Mart shoplifting in the amount of $320 and theft charges were filed.
August 4 - Flock cameras were used to solve a hit-skip crash at a residence on Wheeler Street where a fence was damaged.
August 8 - Officers were alerted to by the Flock cameras that the suspects from the August 2nd shoplifting were again the area of Troy. Officers located the suspects at Kohlโs acting suspiciously. A witness alterted an officer that the suspects discarded something under their car. A bag of used syringes was found and the suspects admitted they used the syrninges to inject methamphetamine. They were charged with posession of drug abuse insturments and drug paraphernalia.
August 9 - Flock cameras werw used to solve a hit-skip crash in the Petco parking lot.
August 9 - Flock cameras were used to solve a shoplifting of $115 from the Re-Store.

August 16 - Flock cameras along with store surveillance were used to help identify and charge a suspect from Lima, Ohio that stole $1,252 from Loweโs in Troy.
August 18 - Officers were alterted by Flock cameras of a 33-year-old in the area from Centerville with a warrant for menacing. He was located at arrested at the Shell station on West Market Street.
August 19 - Flock cameras and eyewitness testimony wree used in the investigation of a shoplifting turned robbery since the suspects threatened the store employees when they tried to stop them. The suspects, from the Fort Wayne, Indiana area stole $738 in merchandise. After the investigation was completed, two suspects were charged with robbery, complicity to robbery, and breaking and entering.
August 21 - Flock cameras were used in an investigation of 3 juveniles failing to pay a $42 bill at Applebeeโs. The owner did not want to pursue criminal charges.
It is also worth noting that the on September 5th, a 90-year-old female with possible memory issues was reported missing by her family. The department entered her license plate number into the Flock system, which then alterted the Huber Heights Police Department. Huber Heigts Police then located within an hour and a half of the initial call into local dispatch.
I am impressed to read that the system is helping to solve so many smaller crimes that may never be resolved otherwise. That should be part of the conversation for any community considering the technology.
As always, thanks for the information! The Flock system might be a welcomed addition to the Piqua Police Department too! How many cameras were installed in Troy?
