Meet The Future
The City of Troy, along with their consultant, American Structurepoint is nearing the completion of the city’s once-in-a-generation Comprehensive Plan. The plan, last rewritten 20 years ago, is in the process of being completely updated and will set the course for land-use in the community over at least the next two decades. The above map was presented to the planning effort’s advisory committee earlier this spring and may provide the basis for what the plan will address in future land use.
One of the continuing efforts this publication has put forward for over the last few months is walking the community through this planning process, bit by bit. For example, our “Learning About Our Community” series took a look at each chapter of the plan’s Existing Conditions Report and discussed in detail where we stood as a community. We kicked off the series in April, with the article below:
This publication took the time to dive into publications and presentations to talk about what American Structurepoint thought about where our community should go through our “Building a Better Community” series. Below is an example of some of work:
Well, now the time has come for the public to learn about the plan. American Structurepoint and the City has announced a Town Hall meeting to be held at the Library of the Troy Junior High School, 556 North Adams Street in Troy. In their announcement, the city stated that “a draft Future Land Use Plan and Transportation Plan will be available for feedback during this public engagement event.” Given the location of the event, it appears that residents will be allowed to interact with city staff and the consultants on the plan and provide input before the plan is formally adopted by both the City Planning Commission and City Council. The event will be held Thursday, August 15th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and is open to the public.
Public attendance at these events are critical. The bureaucrats and consultants that create these plans need input from residents to ensure that the Troy of the future will meet the needs and desires of our future residents.
I plan to be there; I hope to see you there!

A New Way to Support This Work
Our readers and subscribers have been asking for a new way to support the work being done here at Civic Capacity! Some of our readers do not like the idea of having to sign up for another subscription service. Some of our subscribers occasionally want to give more support through a one-time transaction.
Civic Capacity is partnering with “Buy Me A Coffee” to give our readers, subscribers and friends an opportunity to give one-time support to Civic Capacity. Personally, I don’t like coffee, but I will never turn down a nice iced tea. If you feel compelled to support this effort, just click the button below.
Thanks for reading today’s Civic Capacity Newsletter! Please feel free to share this information with your friends and neighbors.
