Miami County Job and Family Services Recognized for Serving Veterans
Miami County Job and Family Services receives highest honor from the State of Ohio and a special grant
Earlier this month, this publication took the time to explain one of the most expansive agencies that are a part of county government — The Department of Job and Family Services.
Being a part of any Job and Family Services agency is a challenging job. Primarily, Job and Family Services are dealing with individuals and families that are often in crisis and may not even know how to navigate a challenging system of public assistance programs. Also, these individuals are also responsible for being good stewards of the public treasury when assisting people. These often competing concerns can play a heavy emotional role on those that staff our Job and Family Services departments.
It is with that backdrop that when a local Job and Family Services agency does something well, it should be well recognized. And that is exactly what happened yesterday when the State of Ohio recognized our own Miami County Job and Family Services Department as setting the standard when it comes to serving veterans and their families.
Miami County has a long history of recognizing and serving local veterans. Operation Veteran Caregiver Support in Piqua (learn more here) has spent nearly the last five years working to connect and support veterans and their families to get the services that they have deserved. The Miami Valley Veterans Museum in Troy (learn more here) does amazing work telling the stories of our local veterans and helping those that served connect.
And when it comes to what Miami County Job and Family Services does for our veterans, they are working with the State’s Vets Ohio Network for Employment (Vets O.N.E.) Program to help veterans find employment. The specific services provided by Job and Family Services for our veterans include: intensive services provided by State Veterans Employment Representatives to address employment barriers and facilitate the hiring process, career advice and job search assistance for veterans who may not be eligible for state services, access to training programs, disability services, and job placement assistance and collaboration with employers to ensure maximum access to training and other opportunities for veterans.
Thanks to the hard work of our local Job and Family Services Agency, Miami County has been awarded the top honor for veteran services by the State of Ohio and received a special grant of $38,215.80 for their outstanding efforts. Our local Job and Family Service agency plans to utilize this award to enhance their supportive services for Ohio's military veteran community. A key focus will be on promoting these services through targeted marketing and advertising campaigns, ensuring that more veterans are aware of and can access the valuable resources available to them
The recognition of our local Job and Family Service agency through the State of Ohio’s Vets O.N.E. incentive awards continues to show a strong commitment to supporting its veteran population. As Job and Family Service agencies across the state continue to innovate and improve their services, Miami County has set a standard for veteran employment support across the state and potentially the nation. The use of the award funds, to enhance supportive services and increase awareness through targeted marketing campaigns, is likely to result in even more veterans benefiting from these crucial resources. This approach not only helps individual veterans but also strengthens our local workforce by effectively utilizing the valuable skills and experiences that veterans bring to the civilian job market.
In conclusion, the Vets O.N.E. incentive awards highlight Miami County’s dedication to supporting its veterans in their transition to civilian careers. By recognizing and rewarding excellence in veteran employment services, the State of Ohio has become a partner is setting a strong example of how Columbus can effectively support local Job and Family Service agencies as they serve their own veteran populations, benefiting both the veterans themselves and the broader economy.
Congratulations Miami County Job and Family Services!
