Monday night’s Streets and Sidewalks Committee meeting did not last long. In a matter of minutes, committee members unanimously agreed to move forward with authorizing a bid for Troy’s Downtown Safety and Streetscape Renovation Project — a $12 million investment that will reshape Main Street, Market Street, the Public Square roundabout, and Prouty Plaza. The vote was quick because the real work has already been done — and a lot of it was done by residents.

That is worth saying plainly: the plan being put out to bid today is not the plan that was first presented. It is better. And it is better because people showed up, paid attention, and said so.
