Seven months ago, we watched Troy’s Finance Committee do something rare and commendable: they slowed down. Faced with pressure from city staff to quickly authorize the Community Improvement Corporation to purchase a troubled downtown property, committee members asked hard questions, demanded due diligence, and refused to rubber-stamp a deal that could leave taxpayers holding the bag on a grass lot in the heart of Troy’s historic district. That decision deserves public recognition and support.
