On June 26, the State Employment Relations Board (SERB) is scheduled to decide whether to adopt an Administrative Law Judge’s proposed order in a case involving the City of Troy. The issue began when the International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 1638, filed an unfair labor practice charge against the city on February 14, 2025. The judge’s recommendation is blunt: Troy violated state law by dealing directly with individual firefighters over a paramedic training tuition reimbursement contract and by refusing to bargain that provision with the union.
