What is the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission?

This organization is pivotal for regional transportation and planning initiatives

Over the last few weeks, as talk of a potential roundabout has been more of a topic of discussion, one of the details about this project is the pivotal role the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) plays in our regional transportation networks and more importantly, how these transportation improvements are funded.

Founded in 1964, the organization serves as a collaborative platform for communities, stakeholders, and residents to advance regional priorities and enhance the quality of life throughout the Miami Valley.

Spanning seven counties in Southwest Ohio—Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, Shelby, and northern Warren—MVRPC operates as both a Regional Planning Commission and a Metropolitan Planning Organization. This unique position allows the commission to address a comprehensive range of planning and research functions that significantly impact the region.

Transportation planning represents a core function of MVRPC. The commission develops long-range transportation strategies, conducts short-range planning, and provides critical services for non-drivers.
