I would think that a new assessment of the need to continue blocking Main Street would be the very first order of business.

Well, I would like to see that as well, but the city has stated as long as the Adjudication Order and the Joint Certification from the CBO and FC was still in place, the road would be closed. I would think it wouldn't take much to fix those items in the 1902 portion of the building to get the street back opened.

Thank you for summarizing the most recent developments on this situation and for continuing to keep us updated over the last several years. I have several questions after reading the resolution agreement. Why a “third party to act as the Chief Building Official”? April is an aggressive deadline based on the past oversight. Tell us more about how this was determined. Moving forward will this robust enforcement be the expectation for other downtown property owners. I look forward to the coming months to see The Tavern Building resuscitated.

I wasn't a part of any of the weeks long negotiation on these details, so I can't really speak on any of it with any degree of certainty. However, I think brining in a third party CBO was the right call since from nearly the beginning of this involvement, our own CBO's credibility has been called into question with the rescinding and issuing of multiple adjudication orders.

And yes, April is a pretty aggressive and a very hard deadline. All parties agreed to the deadline and I would assume that the THPA believes that they can get the required work done by that deadline.

Nary a brick has fallen in the nine months the street has been closed thus far. But a lot of words in the joint statement sure are dedicated to making THPA publicly concede that the CBO and fire chief weren’t wrong. There’s an example of compromise if ever there was one.

That is spot on.

Applaud the hard work that Judge Wall put in! As with most settlements, the winners are always the attorneys(assuming they get paid).

I wish THPA the best in this endeavor. I'll be interested in the "spin" the City puts on this whole four year mess as the process goes forward. Hopefully they really wish that THPA will be successful!

You bring up an important point. It seemed that the only party that worked for a settlement was the Judge. You would think certain individuals that caused a certain street to be blocked off in the middle of town would have put forward a more effective effort to come to a resolution.

I hear a collective "Whew!" from those who care about this building, & preserving history. I am so glad they have come to an agreement, & hope it will all bear fruit for the community! Thank you for staying on top of this.
