BREAKING NEWS: County Commissioners Appoint Acting County Recorder
Retired Sheriff's Department Captain Dave Norman to Lead Office
This afternoon at their 1:30 p.m. General Session, the Miami County Board of Commissioners appointed Dave Norman as Acting County Recorder, after former County Recorder Jessica Lopez resigned to take a position with the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office.
Under state law, the Board of County Commissioners are authorized to appoint an Acting County Recorder before the Republican Party’s Central Committee will meet later next month to appoint an Interim County Recorder that will serve until an individual is elected through a special election that will be held this November. This special election will be covered in future editions of this newsletter.
The Board of Commissioners released this statement:
“Mr. Norman has recently retired as Captain from the Miami County Sheriff’s Department after serving for over twenty years in a variety of positions. Captain Norman has proven the ability to lead people and deliver public services; both of which are critical in the County Recorder’s Office. Thanks to his long-term service with the County, Dave knows the accounting systems and county budget process in Miami County government which will help him operate the Recorder’s office immediately. Not only does he already know Recorder’s Office staff, but has had extensive interaction with all County elected officials and staff from various departments.
Dave Norman is a war hero, being one of the last American soldiers in Vietnam. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps, both as an active enlisted member and as a reservist. He retired as a Master Sergeant. The Recorder’s Office often interacts with veterans and we believe his military service will allow him to compassionately and steadfastly work with Miami County veterans.
With Dave Norman’s background, experience, and his institutional knowledge of County operations, the Commissioners feel Mr. Norman is a perfect fit to be appointed as Interim Miami County Recorder. We believe that this will be a smooth transition and that there will be no interruption in service to the public.”
Most notably, the County Recorder is responsible for keeping the official land records in the county, including deeds and mortgages, along with keeping other official records such as liens. This publication provide a more in-depth review of the position earlier this year.
